Post launch of Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium, the X series gets another XZ in the form of Xperia XZs. The XZs is a smaller and cheaper alternative to XZ Premium with a 5.2-inch Full HD display. It is capable of capturing Super Slow Motion video with its 19MP sensor on the rear. So what else do you get with the new X series devices.

Key Features

  • 19 MP Motion Eye™ camera with Super slow motion

  • Water-resistant design with IP65/68 rating

  • Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 820 processor

  • 5.2-inch Full HD display

  • USB Type-C

Pushing Sony’s Camera Prowess on the Xperia X series

Xperia XZs uses the Sony alpha and Cyber-shot camera technology with a new Motion Eye camera system. It offers 5 time faster image scanning and data transfer using a memory stacked Elmore RS sensor.

That and the wealth of camera features, like Super Slow Motion recording capability at 960 fps, Predictive Capture for image recording even before you hit the shutter and the 19 MP sensor with 19% larger pixels that capture more lights and combining additional improvements using the Bionz processing engine for superb low light performance. It is said that the camera is able to capture what the eyes cannot see and you get a second chance at picking from 4 photos before your actual shot.

When capturing video, the device has an added advantage with its 5-axis image stabilisation for shake-free videos. SteadyShot™ with Intelligent Active Mode reduces shake, with image stabilisation that compensates for movement in five directions. Like the XZ Premium, the XZs is water resistant with Durable IP65/68 rated construction that protects it against rain and dust.

For selfies, the front facing camera has a 13MP 1/ 3.06”  Exmor RS™ for mobile image sensor with 22mm Wide-angle lens f2.0. Sony is not cutting corners as the front facing camera also comes with SteadyShot™, Intelligent Active Mode (5-axis stablization) to make sure you take clear and sharp selfies and wefies.

Display and Sound

With Sony at the fore front of entertainment, it is imperative that both audio and visual from the smartphone receive the same level of attention as the camera. Again, Sony showed its true prowess here with TRILUMINOS, X-Reality and automatic contrast.

Sony uses their pioneering technology and expertise from their BRAVIA TV range to bring true-to-life colour to the mobile display. In what it calls the TRILUMINOS diplay, you get rich and vibrant colours so everything looks life like.

This together with X-Reality™ for Mobile reproduces missing pixels and enhances colour and texture, so even low-quality videos look rich and vibrant.

The Xperia XZs also automatically adjusts the contrast settings based on the users environment. This allows the images and colours to be displayed clear and defined. Bright sunlight won’t outshine your phone, and the high contrast screen lets you see clearly from any viewing angle.

The Xperia XZs plays High-Resolution Audio files, so you can listen to music that sounds just like the artist intended. DSEE HX™ upscales lower-resolution files, restoring the audio so it’s closer to the original recording. High-Resolution Audio (LPCM, FLAC, ALAC, DSD)DSEE HX LDAC Digital Noise Cancelling

And, for those who do not want to form out for a pair of Hi-Res headphones, the Xperia XZs’s built-in stereo speakers deliver loud and dynamic audio playback. S-Force Front Surround technology creates a virtual three-dimensional sound field, so music sounds even more authentic.

The whole audio thing sounds even better when paired with Bluetooth speakers or headphones as the phone uses LDAC, Sony’s own audio technology that pushes 3x the data transmitted over Bluetooth to provide an enhanced wireless listening experience for all your music. This ensures that you do not lose sound quality and whatever you are listening to is crystal-clear.
